Psychologist Howard Gardener argued in his book, Frames of Mind, that human intelligence is not a single unitary property. (Which I know we can all agree) Instead, he suggested there are at least 7 types of intelligence: Linguistic, Musical, Logical-mathematical, Spatial, Bodily-kinesthetic, Interpersonal and Intrapersonal. Arguably, only two or three of these are touched with common schooling..
For those children whose gifts lie within the areas that common school chooses to disregard, they are judged as learning disabled or even handicapped in some manner. Parents are then falsely informed that their child/children are learning disabled or handicapped. This could even result in falsely medicating the child/children.
